Sometimes there is just no way to save a tooth, and for a variety of reasons, extracting one or more teeth is the best option. While it is common to dread this procedure, as evidenced by the expression, “It’s like pulling teeth,” you will find that, at NY Dental, it is not all that bad. We have a lot of experience and are skilled at pulling wisdom teeth, emerging teeth, broken teeth, and even baby teeth.
As with any surgery there is going to be some amount of pain, but we try to alleviate as much of it as possible. Tooth extractions do result in some bleeding for a short period of time. If you have any concerns over your tooth extraction, we will gladly discuss it with you, letting you know what you can expect before and after the surgery.
Some reasons why teeth need to be extracted include:
- Extensive decay
- Broken or cracked
- Complicating factors that rule out being able to do a root canal
- Advanced periodontal disease (gum disease)
- Crowding (some teeth may need to be removed for orthodontic purposes)
- Malpositioned or impacted (a common reason for removing wisdom teeth)
