The last thing most people want to hear from their dentist is that they need a root canal. Perhaps the most dreaded of all dental procedures, but one that can save much more pain and suffering if it is not done. So when it has to be done, you want your tooth to be in the hands of a skilled and experienced dentist. The dentists at NY Dental have as much skill and experience as you could ask for.

So when does a tooth need a root canal, and what exactly is a root canal? Inside each of your teeth is soft tissue called pulp. This soft tissue can cause problems if it is injured or becomes diseased. Symptoms include pain and swelling. If left untreated, the problem can spread to the bone where the tooth is anchored. This could lead to a need to extract the tooth.

A root canal is a necessary procedure if you want to save your tooth. It is accomplished by making an opening in the crown of the affected tooth, enabling the dentist to remove the damaged pulp. This central canal is then cleaned and filled in. Finally, the crown of the tooth is given a temporary or permanent filling, or it is given a crown.

The best thing about getting this procedure done at NY Dental is that, while many offices will schedule another appointment after a diagnosis is made, in most situations we do the procedure on the same day, taking care of you in just one visit. (Under some circumstances, multiple visits will be unavoidable.)
