Dentures are removable oral appliances used to replace multiple missing teeth. If you are missing several teeth or all of your teeth, dentures might be just what you need to restore the function, beauty, and health of your smile. There are two kinds of dentures: complete dentures and partial dentures.
A complete denture is used to replace all of the teeth in a full dental arch. We may suggest a complete denture to replace all of the teeth in both arches or just one, depending on your individual needs. Our dentist may suggest using a denture adhesive for improved stability.
A partial denture is used if you are missing multiple teeth but have remaining natural teeth. A partial denture often includes a thin framework or clasps that attach to the natural teeth for a secure fit.
Our dentist may recommend complete or partial dentures to restore your smile if you are missing multiple teeth; dentures can improve your ability to properly speak and eat, restore your natural facial volume, and enhance the overall beauty of your smile. Your dentures will be custom made to fit your smile comfortably, aesthetically, and securely. We invite you to call or visit us soon to learn more about how dentures can improve your smile!
Same-Day Dentures After Extractions
What are Same Day Dentures?
Same day, or immediate, dentures are those placed on the same day as the appointment with the dentist. They can be full or partial dentures which are inserted immediately following the extraction of the natural teeth.
What are the Advantages of Same Day Dentures?
There are quite a few advantages with an immediate denture. The most important advantage is that a person will never have to go out in public without teeth. While some of a patient’s natural teeth are still present in his or her mouth, it is also easier to duplicate the shape, color, and arrangement of the teeth. When a same day denture is installed at the time of extraction, it acts as a bandage to protect the tissues and minimize bleeding. A same day denture will allow patients to establish his or her speech patterns early. Also, patients won’t have to learn to speak without a denture, only to have to then relearn how to speak with a denture in place. A same day denture will also allow patients to chew better than without teeth present and reduce any facial distortion which can occur when teeth are removed.
How Long Does It Take to Complete?
For patients who need a full same day denture: The fabrication process will consist of the collection of impressions and bite records, tooth selection in two to three visits. On the day the dentures are delivered, patients will be scheduled for the extractions followed by the immediate insertion of the same day dentures.
